Counting my blessings…..
Every now and then, something happens in my or around my life and I get a wake-up call. One that reminds me of how lucky I am and has me counting my blessings. I am certainly feeling blessed right now.
Those of you who have been following me on my ‘spiritual’ journey would know that I certainly get around; there’s lots of traveling in my job. I love to travel but I also seem to have a lot of unusual experiences. A lot more than anybody else I know.
As I write this I am in Darwin and my heart goes out to the people that were affected by the recent shooting here. In fact when it was all ‘going down’ I was on a bus watching the shooter get tackled and arrested by the police.
There were police cars and unmarked cars pulling up everywhere and at the time no one on the bus had a clue as to what had been happening during the day, or what was happening in front of us.
One other passenger commented, “Gosh that’s a bit over the top for a traffic offense!”
I was stunned and just watched it all while we were stuck at the traffic lights and unable to move. After he was arrested, all our phones started pinging with incoming messages asking if we were okay. As with modern technology, it was in the media and our loved ones back home who knew more than we did. Some say ignorance is bliss and my life can be a bit like that, sailing past while everything happens around you and yet you are still so protected.
While we were safe on the bus and ignorant to what the full extent of what was happening in front of us, these types of events still have me reflecting on my blessings and saying thank you to my guides and protectors.
On a lighter note, there have been other things happen on this trip that doesn’t have me thanking my guides.
On this trip alone, I have changed hotel rooms twice due to a flooding bathroom floor and then an air conditioner that sounded like a jackhammer! It had us feeling like there was a construction site outside our room 24/7. There’s also been fire alarms, fire trucks and much more. You could say life is never dull.
On the good side, I did a tour of the Paspaley Pearl Factory here in Darwin and got to opportunity to handle thousands of dollars worth of pearls. They weighed the tub of pearls before we went into the room and then weighed the tub before we were allowed out of the room as part of their security measures. They were so beautiful, and I very much wanted to buy some, but I was good and left empty-handed.
I loved the gorgeous sunset at Mindil Beach and the fabulous cheese platter we shared. Yes, life is good and there are many blessings and yes it definitely has its ups and downs but we can’t let them get us down. Look for the positives, the good in your life and count your blessings, then surely more can come to you.
