My work provides me with lots of opportunities to travel and I feel that the Spirit world will always place me where I need to be for the healing of others, for myself, or for my Spiritual Development.
This time, I was in a situation where I only had 4 days between coming home from New Zealand and having to fly out to Spain for the Spiritually guided Camino walk. I was starting to panic, concerned I wouldn’t be able to fit in enough work that would prepare me for the walk.
New Zealand is known for its adventure sports, and before we left, I was wondering what I would do while we were there, as I was told by my Doctor I shouldn’t ski or do any type of extreme sports. I’ve recently been diagnosed with a syndrome that affects my joints, so I had to avoid anything that would jolt them!
I’ve never had the desire to go skydiving or bungee jumping, so I was at a bit of a loss as to what to do in New Zealand (besides exploring Queenstown on foot). “Go on Mum, have a go at paragliding!” my children suggested. “No way!”, I told them, “No broken bones for me!”. I was determined to take it easy during this trip.
We arrived in scenic Queenstown, went on some hikes and my husband talked me into going on the luge – so much fun and a bit like go-carting. The start of the luge was located near the jump-off point for the paragliding. As soon as I noticed him see the sign, I said in a warning tone “I have no desire to paraglide!” and so we went on the chairlift to take in the views of the mountain.
I thought he had accepted my decision and anytime he brought it up, I changed the subject. What I didn’t know, was that while we were checking out the mountain views, he was on phone, purchasing TWO tickets for the paragliding!! I wasn’t very happy but didn’t want to waste the ticket – his plan to get me out of my comfort zone had worked.
We met with our tandem experts and got to watch the people before us take off. I was surprised that I wasn’t feeling anxious, just acceptance. They were going to take photos and film the glide for us – perfect! If I was going to do this, I wanted proof!
But …. I had a feeling the camera wasn’t going to work. “Can you make sure that camera is working properly?” “Yes, it’s working fine” “I hope so because this is the only time I’m doing this!”
I was still worried about the camera, but in a state of calm, I felt like I was in a bubble. My tandem instructor, Brendan, triple checked the safety connections and then, we did it … ran towards the edge and JUMPED.
I surrounded us with protective bubbles of white light, said some prayers for us and had a stern talk with my “Spirit Team” …. You guys must want me up here, so I’m going to trust that you keep me safe …. This is part of the upgrade you asked for was the reply.
It all became clear in my mind – a few days earlier I had meditated and requested a “spiritual” upgrade to prepare for the experience of the Camino walk. It looked like this upgrade was going to take place in the sky. My Spirit team had been working with my Husband’s team!
The paragliding experience was amazing – I felt like a soaring bird. I could see my husband and his instructor ahead of us – an amazing experience to share.
Soon we landed and I thanked God and my Guides for our safe journey and for this once in a lifetime experience. My husband was checking out his footage – it was amazing! I remembered how concerned I was about the camera for my jump … “I don’t think my footage worked, I think something went wrong”.
Then Brendan came over with the bad news “I don’t know why, but the camera failed! We don’t have any photos or footage. None of it worked!” My face dropped, I was so disappointed!
“Oh well, I’ll just take you up again and film it again! It will work this time!”
My husband was worried I wouldn’t want to go up again, I was worried that I would never have ‘proof’ of this experience. I checked in with my ‘Spirit’ team to see what to do.
We need you to do it again, the upgrade is not finished
“Okay, I’ll do it. I will go up again!”
We went back to the top of the mountain, this time I was getting nervous. A bit of a delayed start as we didn’t catch the wind on our first “take off”. Brenden checked all the safety gear again. I asked him to check the camera again too – was the false start a “sign” not to do it?
He assured me the camera was working, and then a feeling of calmness came over me and I knew it would all go well.
We took off again, glided high in the sky, surrounded by the most spectacular scenery of snow-capped mountains, an enormous lake, and views of Queenstown below us.
I loved every minute and I was grateful for my husband taking me out of my comfort zone and to my ‘Spirit Team’ for letting me experience it twice and give me the upgrade I asked for.
This time the camera worked perfectly and I got the proof I wanted! Not only that, I got two rides for the price of one and a lesson in trusting your ‘Guides’
